The Streets of Fandom, Wednesday Evening
Kira had spent the better part of the day wandering around town, checking out the different shops, buying food, and just generally avoiding going back to the creepy house where everyone was staying. Unfortunately, she could only hide out in town for so long before she had to catch the ferry while it was still dusk - the only thing worse than going to the creepy house was going to the creepy house in the dark. So, she and her bag of muffins were heading back, though really not in too much of a rush.
[Expecting one but open otherwise!]

Creepy was Derek Hale showing up out of nowhere because he walked like a cat. "Kira."

Bet you didn't know that.

He hadn't said much yesterday, but she had still noticed him, so there.

"Are you from Beacon Hills?" Derek finally asked, scooping up his manly dog to tuck up under his arm. Aw yeah, just where Puppy Joe wanted to be.

Just confirming this. He didn't teach for the first part of the summer. So, he was out of the loop.

"I grew up in Beacon Hills."
Fyi.

[Grr I didn't get a notif. Sorry!]

He paused, wondering if he should even do this. It wasn't like she was a wolf or anything, but...
Because saying 'Yer ah kitsune, Kira' probably didn't help her. "Have you noticed anything weird lately?"
But creepy, invasive questions were cool. Yeah.

"It's probably nicer for you because you don't have to take a ferry to get to and from your place," she said. "But I'm glad everyone likes it here. That makes me feel better about staying here in the fall instead of going home, or heading off to California."
no subject
He sighed. "Let me know if anything too weird happens to you here."
For reasons.

Congratulations Derek, you were now her nicest teacher.

"You'll get used to most of the things." A beat. "Have some loose clothing for when the island decides to turn you into a guy."
Why did her cheer make him want to help her? And buy her a leather jacket.
no subject
"I've been warned about that, but I keep hoping it won't happen. But my big sibling is a guy, so I feel like he'll be obligated to help me if it does."

Baltimore only had, like, muggers and drug addicts and your run-of-the-mill criminals. It didn't have a feeling like you were being watched--and judged--from every angle.
"Heading back?"
Please be heading back. Or in a mood to have company until you were...

So they wouldn't have to keep sleeping in really creepy rooms? Kathy was pretty sure she'd heard a little girl crying most of last night.

Because...yeah. Look at the roster there.
"Speaking of, what are you taking for classes this semester? Anything exciting?"

There had been a bridge to leap off of and all.
"Who's teaching Fun in the Sun?" It was important to keep track of the hot teachers, after all.

She could picture him in swimtrunks. It was a nice picture.
"Have I mentioned recently how unfair this place is?"

Stupid creepy ghosts being all creepy and joy-ruining.

"Not really?" Kathy said. "It's more, uhh, I don't think I'm quite the, y'know, caliber of customer the cheesecakes are used to."
Stretch that metaphor a little further, Kathy.
"I've never had, umm, a cheesecake before. And my parents would murder me if they found out I was...snacking? Especially if it was just a plain, white cheesecake. Or any non-Korean ones."
Her parents were...kinda racist. Heck, her dad would freak out about her being friends with Kira if he knew about her mom's heritage. Not even the kitsune bit!
Okay, yeah, her dad was just a straight up asshole.
no subject
"I haven't... you know, had cheesecake either. And I think my dad--no, my dad would probably try to set me up with a buffet and have me pick at the end. My mom, on the other hand, might kill him first."
no subject
That miiiiight have played a teeny-tiny role in Kathy's decision to go by Banzai. Just sayin'.
"Your dad sounds pretty awesome," Kathy said, trying not to sound envious. "I'm pretty sure my parents are hoping to arrange some kind of marriage for me with the son of my dad's coworkers or one of mom's friends or something. Ugh ugh ugh."
